Narrative Abstract Expressionist Artist
I'm currently describing my Art as Multi Media, Narrative, Abstract, Expressionism but I reserve the right to change this description without notice.
I use the term Multi Media fairly broadly as I am also a prolific Songwriter, Art Consultant and Website Designer. I also run one of the UK's Top Art Related Websites www.ArtUK.com. I therefore need to make frequent switches from right brain to left and back again. It's not easy as it takes time build up momentum in any of these activities.
In relation to my visual artworks, I also use the term Multi Media on account the large variety of materials I use in there creation. My Abstract Paintings usually contain various bits of Collage, Textured areas, Scripts, Scratches and Scribbles. I call them Narrative Abstract Expressionist as I try do make them tell a bit of a story both with their content and also through their titles.
Abstract Art doesn't need to be about anything, in the same way that Music (which is also abstract) doesn't need to be. However, a title can sometimes assist the viewer to understand a message that the Abstract Artist or Musician may be trying to convey. If a picture says a 1000 words then a relevant title is a brief synopsis.
Apart from Abstract Art, I have also done and continue with a series of paintings called Along the Silk Road. These are as the name implies, evocative of Towns, Villages and Cities along the ancient Silk Trading Routes. These are inspired by numerous oriental journeys I have made.
I also create Yantras which a type of Ancient Art used for focusing the mind in a spiritual manner and are often used for meditation or in Vastu ( Indian Feng Shui) to create Harmony and Good Fortune when hung in the home. I learned about Yantras during many stays in India. According to Art Historians the Yantra is the oldest known form of Abstract Art.
I also enjoy painting figurative work and I will happily switch from one style to another as I feel I need a break from painting in a style to come back with a fresh approach.
